Things to Do at Nether Glenny Farm

Explore, slow down and make the most of your stay

There’s plenty to enjoy during your time at Nether Glenny Farm, whether you’re looking for adventure, great food, gentle exploration or simple moments of calm.

Set in the Menteith Hills within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, the farm is surrounded by landscapes and experiences that suit all interests and energy levels. From hill walking and cycling to woodland adventures, lochs, cruises and excellent local food, everything is within easy reach.

Below are some of our favourite things to do during a stay with us.

Nick Nairn’s Restaurant, Port of Menteith

A favourite with both locals and visitors, Nick Nairn’s restaurant at Port of Menteith offers a relaxed but refined dining experience, focusing on simple food done exceptionally well. It’s known for its welcoming atmosphere, seasonal menus and much-loved pizzas.

Alongside the restaurant, the Home by Julia Nairn shop showcases a carefully curated selection of homeware, gifts and local products.

Fishing at the Lake of Menteith

Just a short drive from the farm, the Lake of Menteith is Scotland’s only “lake” and a renowned destination for trout fishing. Its calm waters and open views towards the hills make it as enjoyable for the setting as for the sport itself. Boats and permits can be arranged locally, whether you’re an experienced angler or trying fly fishing for the first time. It’s a wonderfully unhurried way to spend a few hours, drifting across the water with nothing but birdsong and big skies for company.

Inchmahome Priory

From the same shore, small boats take visitors out to Inchmahome Island, home to the peaceful ruins of a 13th-century Augustinian priory. Surrounded by trees and water, the island feels quietly removed from the modern world. Mary, Queen of Scots, found refuge here as a child, and today the priory remains a place to wander slowly, explore the cloisters and enjoy a picnic beneath ancient oaks. A visit combines history, nature and a gentle boat journey across the lake — a memorable addition to any stay.

Go Ape, Aberfoyle

For those looking for an adrenaline-filled day out, Go Ape in Aberfoyle offers high ropes courses and zip lines set high in the forest canopy. Home to some of the longest zip lines in the UK, it’s an exciting way to see the landscape from a different perspective, with views over trees, waterfalls and hills.

Walks, views and fresh air

The Lodge at Aberfoyle

The Lodge at Aberfoyle is a great starting point for a range of forest walks and viewpoints. Options range from gentle strolls to a waterfall to more demanding routes through woodland and rocky crags, all with rewarding views across the surrounding countryside.

Loch Katrine

A cruise on Loch Katrine offers a peaceful way to experience one of Scotland’s most iconic lochs. Visitors have been drawn here for centuries, inspired by the writings of Sir Walter Scott and the dramatic scenery of water, hills and woodland that still captivates today. Steamship Sir Walter Scott has sailed on this beautiful loch since 1900.

Climb a Hill or Mountain

The area around Nether Glenny Farm is surrounded by a range of hills and mountains suited to different abilities.

Nearby options include:

  • Ben Lomond, a Munro offering classic views across Loch Lomond

  • Ben Ledi, a Corbett with sweeping views over the Trossachs

  • Ben A’an, a shorter climb with a big reward at the summit

Each offers a memorable day out, whether you’re ticking off peaks or simply enjoying the climb.

Go Wild Swimming

For those who enjoy cold water swimming, there are several beautiful lochs close to the farm. Whether you’re dipping your toes or taking a full swim, the surrounding lochs offer refreshing, natural swimming spots set within peaceful scenery.

We’re always happy to share our favourite local spots during your stay.

Slow it all down

Of course, some of the best things to do at Nether Glenny Farm involve doing very little at all. Relax in the garden, fire up the BBQ, enjoy the views, visit The Pantry for games and snacks, or simply step out from your door and wander into the hills.

However, you choose to spend your time, Nether Glenny offers the space and setting to shape each day exactly as you wish.
